History of Grama Panchayat
Kannapuram Grama Panchayat was established in 1960. It is believed that a Vishnu Temple existed here even before the establishment of the Annapoorneshwari Temple, and that it was known by the name Kannapurathappan (Sree Krishna). One view is that the name “Kannapuram” originated from the phrase meaning “the land of Kannan (Lord Krishna)”. Another belief is that since Sage Kanva is said to have performed penance at the Trikkoth Cave, the name “Kannante Puram” (the land of Kanva) gradually evolved into “Kannapuram.”
